VANDALS have struck at an amateur football club in Wrexham for the second time in a week.

Gresford Athletic FC took to their Twitter page to say the latest incident comes just 24 hours after the club's chairman had repaired the damage from last week's vandalism.

The club, which play in the second tier of Welsh football, said the latest incident took place on Saturday evening at their ground on Clappers Lane and was reported to North Wales Police.

Vandals damaged the seats in the stand, as well as fencing.

It was the also fourth time in a year that the ground has suffered damage at the hands of vandals, with the stand also damaged in April and July of last year.

A post on the Gresford Athletic official Twitter page said: "Disgraceful damage yet again at Clappers Lane this morning. Our Chairman had only just sorted last week’s damage yesterday ahead of our home game.

"Why would anyone think to do this? Absolutely devastated."

People reacted angrily to the club's social media posts on the matter.

One person said: "Devastating to see this happen to you again. Absolutely disgraceful and pointless acts of vandalism.

"I hope whoever is culpable are caught."

Another added: "It is a disgrace for the fans, community, and Welsh football as a whole.

"Whoever's responsible need life bans from all stadiums in Wales, apart from unpaid work to be completed in football grounds competing under the  Welsh FA."
