Wrexham Lager is hosting a festival in the town this June, where Dafydd Iwan will perform on the main stage, it was announced today (April 7)

Wrexham Lager has teamed up with Commonwood Leisure to present ‘Wrexham Open Air’, a new festival held on the grounds of Borras Commonwood Fishery, just outside of Wrexham town centre.

The festival is a celebration of all Wrexham, and Wales, have to offer. The town has been thrown into the public eye through the purchase of Wrexham AFC by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and the City of Culture 2025 bid.

The town has since caught the attention of Dafydd Iwan, who performed the iconic song 'Yma O Hyd' in front of 30,000 Welsh football supporters in Cardiff two weeks ago.

The performance has been viewed over 1 million times online since the match and has become a symbol of Welsh football.

Wrexham Lager says they are thrilled to have him perform at the festival.

Joss Roberts, of Wrexham Lager said they were 'really happy' that Dafydd Iwan would be playing in the Wrexham Open Air festival.

"He knows that Wrexham football, and Wrexham, has always supported him by always playing his song and we're buzzing to have him. Two weeks ago he was playing in front of 30,000 welsh supporters before the welsh game versus Austria.

"Hopefully, come the 18 June Wales will have qualified for the World Cup and Wrexham have hopefully qualified (for the play-offs), all fingers crossed. Wrexham will be the place to be."

Wrexham Lager made the announcement on social media in a post that said: "We are buzzing to announce that non-other than Yma o Hyd singer, Dafydd Iwan, who sent shivers down the back of 30,000 Welsh supporters just two weeks ago in Cardiff, will be performing on the main stage at Wrexham Open Air on June 18!"

They added: "We’re pushing Wrexham! We’re pushing Welsh!

"And if you’re thinking anything like we are, imagine a promotion party and Welsh qualification all in one!"

Wrexham Lager has had a great year so far themselves, with their bottles of Export lager and the Bootlegger pilsner now being sold on shelves in Aldi, and the announcement this week that Bootlegger will be sold in Home Bargains stores across England and Wales.

It was also one of the ten Welsh firms invited to the recent St David's Day celebrations in parliament and will be releasing a new beer for the first time in two years.
