The Chirk Gardeners’ club is back with its second meeting of the year, ‘Using See Through Plants’.

The club is one of the oldest run in the area, having been going for 36 years this year, and meets in the Parish Hall in Chirk on the last Monday of the month from February -July and September – November and has a guest speaker at every meeting.

Last month the club had its first meeting since the pandemic, with Mick Poultney, the “Compost King” and was looking for new members to join.

Dawn Dough, the chair of the club, said: “We had a very good attendance at our first meeting when we had a talk on No Dig gardening by Mick Poultney. He was a very entertaining speaker who told us all about ways to develop the fertility and productivity of our soils without the need for digging.

“As a follow up we will be providing all members with a hadpot growing bag and seed potatoes free at our next meeting so that they can try a no dig method of growing potatoes for themselves.”

The next talk is on March 28 is called ‘Using See Through Plants’ by Moe Sawyer.

Moe is a member of the National Executive Committee of the Cottage Gardening Society. Her garden Southlands has won BBC Garden of the year and has been featured on Gardeners’ World. Her digital presentation illustrates the use of see-through perennials, annuals, bulbs, grasses and sub-shrubs for all seasons to enhance border planting in the garden. She will be bringing plants for sale on the night.

The talk starts at 7.15pm at Parish Hall Chirk

Membership is £10 per year or visitors £2 per meeting to include refreshments
