A Wrexham woman will be taking on her first ever marathon next month in support of Hope House Children's Hospices.

Susie Trow, 47, will be running the Manchester Marathon in memory of four-year-old Harry Jones, from Wrexham, who died in his sleep in 2004 due to an undiagnosed heart condition.

Susie met Harry's parents, Julia and Jeff, by chance when selling them a car for Harry's twin Charlie's 18th birthday.

Julia and Jeff told Susie about Harry and the support they had received from Hope House, and since then they have stayed in touch and become friends.

"Since getting to know Julia and Jeff, I have joined them in their campaign to raise funds for Hope House," said Susie.

"Since Harry died they have tirelessly been organising fundraising events every year and since 2005 they have raised more than £80,000.

"I want to do my bit by raising money in memory of Harry by running the Manchester Marathon. I've never run anything like this distance before, so it's going to be quite the challenge."

While Susie is not new to fitness, she has mainly been focussed on strength training and mountain biking. However, when the gyms closed during lockdown she took up running.

"It really is a great thing to run, it's great to have some time, get in the fresh air and listen to some music," said Susie. "Knowing I am doing it for such a great cause has made me determined to cross the finish line."
