The Wrexham community has been praised in Parliament this week, for their response to supporting people in Ukraine.
In Parliament on Monday, Wrexham’s MP Sarah Atherton welcomed the work of the Polish Integration Support Centre (PISC) and called on the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, to celebrate Anna Buckley and the community.
In her question to the Secretary of State, Ms Atherton said: “In the past week I have worked with Anna Buckley from Wrexham’s Polish Integration Support Centre to logistically manage the unprecedented UK response to her call for donations.

"Businesses and people across Wrexham have answered that call, with hundreds of volunteers sorting through five warehouses full of donations going to Poland. Will the Secretary of State congratulate Anna and the community spirit of Wrexham?
In response, Mr Gove said: “Anna, the Polish community and indeed the wider citizens of Wrexham set a brilliant example, as so many do, of community action to support those in need. I congratulate her and my hon. Friend.”
Ms Atherton’s question follows the PISC’s appeal, which launched last week, to gather donations to support those displaced by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The appeal saw donations arriving in Wrexham from North Wales and North West England and, in response, volunteers from across the town gathered to support the unloading and organisation of donations. At short notice, warehouse space was also found across Wrexham, including at Wockhardt and F Lloyd (Penley).
Sarah Atherton said: “It was an honour to be able to celebrate the work of Anna Buckley and the PISC in Parliament and to recognise the incredible work of our community. In response to the terrible situation in Ukraine, our community has pulled together, and I am so proud of all that has been achieved by so many.
“Following a conversation with Anna last week, my team and I were also pleased to be able to work with businesses from across Wrexham to find additional warehouse space for the incoming flood of donations. I am very grateful to the businesses and volunteers that stepped up in response to this call out – thank you."
