A WREXHAM-based building which is home to a number of voluntary organisations has re-opened its offices.

With the further easing of Covid-19 restrictions by the Welsh Government, AVOW (Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham) has re-opened its Egerton Street offices to the public.

The Ty Avow building hosts a variety of voluntary organisations, including Barnardo’s, Vision Support, Snap Cymru, Polish Integration Support Centre (PISC) and Cloud 9 for Life Counselling.

Also based there is AVOW’s volunteer bureau, community development services, a payroll service and comprehensive support to voluntary and community organisations.

The building also runs various training courses, offers meeting room hire, and currently has some vacant office space available.

AVOW staff will be returning to a hybrid working situation, working some of their time from home and some from the office: Their working days and location will be displayed on the AVOW website (avow.org) to ensure the public know who is working and when.

During the pandemic, AVOW expanded their services; providing extensive information to the community as well as signing up hundreds of volunteers who wished to help vulnerable people throughout Wrexham County Borough.

In addition, AVOW distributed over £250,000 of funding to many voluntary organisations and community groups: These funds were available to support those adapting to the new pressures of operating in our communities through the Covid-19 pandemic, and to also support people during the winter period.

These funds have already helped many hundreds of people who may have support needs, such as problems with poverty, wellbeing and/or mental health.

Dawn Roberts-McCabe, the new Chief Officer of AVOW (following the recent retirement of John Gallanders, BEM) said, “I am delighted that Ty Avow is re-opening to the public, and we hope to offer a high level of support for all of our partners: Both based in the building, and out in the community.”

Dawn previously spent most of her career as a Diplomat for the U.S Department of State, working in locations such as Moldova, Sierra Leone and The Netherlands.

Dawn has also previously lived in Wrexham, founding and managing the Empowering Youth Foundation: A charity that teaches life skills through sport to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
