A FLINTSHIRE woman is celebrating her 106th birthday today - but she has only been able to do so 27 times on the day of her birth.
Ilyd Jones was born on February 29, 1916 - a leap year.
There have only been 27 February 29th in that time, so this year friends decided to mark the occasion on the 28th having celebrated her 105th on March 1.
When the leader called to wish Ilyd a happy birthday, she was enjoying a glass of her favourite tipple, a glass of sherry, while opening more of her cards.
A card from the Queen took pride of place on the mantle.
Mrs Jones is well-known in the local area and many still remember the garage she owned.
One of them is Giuseppe Contento, now 70, who had his first job aged not much more then ten-years-old working the petrol pumps there.
Giuseppe said: "I love her to bits, I've known her since I was ten or eleven. She's 106 at the end of the month and I'm sure she would be the oldest lady in Mold.
"She's like a celebrity, she's been in business all of her life."
His wife Jeanette was there for the big day, welcoming neighbours and well-wishers bearing cards and gifts.
Jeanette said: "She has had plenty of well-wishers. She's amazing.
"My husband and I adore her.
"She is an example of having lived a fulfilled life, although she has had sadness too."
