PART of an old school site in Flintshire is to be offered to the local community.

Flintshire Council is to gift part of the old Penyffordd CP school site on Chester Road to the community council.

It is hoped that part of the site will be used for social housing with the help of funding from Welsh Government.

Penyffordd CP moved to a new site in 2019, leaving the Chester Road site vacant.

Leader of the council, Councillor Ian Roberts, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to make this offer to the community of Penyffordd and show our commitment to working with the community for the benefit of all local residents.”

Local ward members, Councillor Cindy Hinds and Councillor Alasdair Ibbotson, said: “We are glad to have played a role in ensuring this land is available to our community and have worked closely with Flintshire to gain new green space for our village.

“Penyffordd has a lack of public green space and this agreement will help fix that.  We also welcome the fact that the built up area will be used for social housing.”
