North Wales Police's Wrexham officers have backed the town’s City of Culture 2025 bid.

The link-up follows Wrexham Town Police Station’s debut football match at Colliers Park, where funding for the game’s live streaming was provided by the team behind Wrexham’s bid.

As advocates of the campaign, officers will promote the benefits of becoming UK City of Culture in conversations with colleagues, friends and family and members of the public.

The competition uses culture to ‘level up’ areas of the UK, bringing increased productivity and opportunities to the winning region.

Already shortlisted as one of eight potential winners, Wrexham is the only remaining Welsh applicant at this stage of the competition.

Wrexham Sergeant Dave Smith said: “For us, this is a brilliant project that has the interests of the whole Wrexham area at its heart.

“We’ve seen other places in the UK really thrive after winning their City of Culture bids. Cities like Hull, where there was huge investment made which really helped to boost the profile of the city.

“New investment and the prestige that City of Culture status would bring, could really reinvigorate the town.

“As officers we’re striving to improve our working relationship with everyone in Wrexham. I feel like our own community engagement initiatives are helping us to break down some of the barriers between ourselves and the public.

“The City of Culture bid is something that could potentially improve the lives of many people living in this area, so we are fully supportive of the bid.”
