TRAFFIC on the Britannia Bridge has now resumed following a crash this morning (January 20) which led to a man dying and another being seriously injured.

North Wales Police was called at 2.55am today to a report of a serious crash involving two heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and two cars on the westbound carriageway on approach to the bridge.

The driver of one car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of another car was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor with serious injuries.

North Wales Police said in a statement at 12.20pm today: “We can now confirm that the eastbound lane has now re-opened.

“Please bear in mind that, due to the amount of traffic in the area, delays are still inevitable and we thank you for your continued patience.”

A statement from Isle of Anglesey County Council shortly after 1pm added: “Traffic is now crossing Britannia Bridge in an eastbound direction after a fatal road collision earlier this morning.

“The incident has meant long delays on the A545, A5025 and B5420 towards Menai Bridge; and A5, A55 and A4080 towards Llanfairpwll and Bangor.”
