The vintage bus service on New Year's Day was such a success, that plans are already being made for next year.
A large selection of vehicles ran a free service between Chester and Wrexham on New Year's Day, whilst raising donations for Nightingale House Hospice.
The Chester and Wrexham Charity Heritage Bus Running Day was originally planned for 2020, but lockdown restrictions prevented it from going ahead and after it being so successful this time, the decision has been made to run the service again in 2023.
David Lee, managing director of Routemaster 4 Hire and one of the main organisers of the day, couldn't believe the support they received.
He said: “We have had an overwhelming response to our first charity vintage bus running day. With 16 vintage buses running a half-hourly service between Wrexham and Chester on a surprisingly warm New Year’s Day the turnout was far beyond our expectations.
"We thought only a few die-hard enthusiasts would turn up but what we had was families bringing their young children for their first ever ride on a vintage bus and along the route people were waiting outside their houses and enthusiastically waving as we drove past.
“The rides were free of charge but we were asking for a voluntary donation to Nightingale House Hospice, we had one of their collecting tins on every bus so we can’t wait to find out how much we managed to raise.
“Due to the popularity of the event we have already decided to run the event again next year."
