A WREXHAM expat living in Australia stepped in after a family's Christmas display in aid of a cancer unit was vandalised.

The Leader reported on Thursday that a vandal was caught on CCTV taking a knife to an inflatable Christmas tree at property in Acton.

The property is the home of Jodie Murphy and Shaun Davies - with the latter turning it into a dazzling Christmas display in aid of the Shooting Star cancer unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

This was done as his partner, Jodie, aged 33, is battling breast cancer - with the Shooting Star unit providing "amazing" support for her during her ongoing treatment.

After reading about the shocking vandalism, Emma Barnes, formerly of Wrexham but now living in Australia, provided a touching act of kindness - ver much in the spirit of Christmas.

She bought a new inflatable tree and had it delivered at Shaun and Jodie's home - as a surprise.

Acton Community Council also offered to buy a tree for the family.

Shaun's mum, Julie, said: "Thankyou so much to Emma - it's nice to know there are still some kind and caring people out there."

Emma said: "At Christmas we all need to know there are still people that care, amongst the few that spoil it for the rest."

People took social media to react to the act of kindness, describing it as "lovely thing to do".

One person said: "Now that is what I call sharing Christmas spirit - good always wins."

Another added: "What a lovely gesture, it does restore your faith in people."
