IT is understood the Welsh Government is likely to increase covid restrictions for a period after Christmas Day.
Expected measures include limiting the number of people allowed to meet in hospitality and entertainment venues.
But the exact details will not be confirmed until later tonight after sign-off from the country’s cabinet members.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of the Omicron variant in Wales has risen by 33 to 95.
More than 2,700 new cases of covid were recorded in Wales in the latest 24 hour perio.
In the latest update from Public Health Wales at midday, 2,710 new cases of coronavirus were reported.
Of these, 639 were in North Wales.
Schools in Wales have already been told to prepare for a return to remote learning after the Christmas holidays.
Education minister Jeremy Miles MS today reiterated the Welsh Government’s desire to continue with in-person teaching, but added that some measures may need to be taken to protect staff and children.
The minister has written to schools “to ensure they have robust plans in place to move to remote learning if required.”
Schools will get two “planning days” at the start of the spring term, to allow them to plan for the return of all children to school.
