AFTER another unprecedented year The Leader decided to recognise the many individuals and organisations that are making such a difference to our communities.
We asked readers to nominate worthy people/groups for our Community Heroes Awards, and you rose to the challenge.
We wanted to honour those community heroes who have gone above and beyond in the last 20 months.
We wanted to hail NHS staff, shop workers, volunteers and young people for their care and compassion in such unprecedented times.
We also wanted to recognise the everyday heroes and our emergency services, as well as those working in business, education and hospitality who have stepped up during the coronavirus pandemic.
Regional editor Susan Perry said: “This has been an unprecedented time and there have been so many stories of heroes from all walks of life – from our doctors, nurses and carers to the everyday heroes like our bus drivers, supermarket workers and binmen, to the young people, teachers and neighbours.
“The Leader Community Heroes Awards recognise those people who have shown what this great community is made of.
“We never stop wanting to hear about the inspiring people of Wrexham and Flintshire who have shown such bravery, compassion and leadership in the last 20 months.
“We have been reporting on some of the amazing acts of compassion, bravery and ingenuity in the last year. It is only right that we recognise the brilliant people of this region.
“I only wish we could recognise more people as there are so many heroes out there — especially in our hospital and health and care teams.
“I would like to thank our readers for all their nominations.
“We were blown away by the amazing stories and it is comforting to know that there are so many caring people out there.
“There are hundreds of people out there who have made and continue to make such a difference to other peoples lives and the communities they live in and it is only right that we recognise them.”
All winners will receive a trophy and a certificate - now it's time to meet them...
