THERE have been almost 2,000 new covid cases in Wales as plans are put in place to counter the new Omicron variant.
According to the latest Public Heath Wales update on Tuesday, there were 1,972 new cases recorded in Wales.
Sadly, four more people died after a positive covid test.
Of the new cases, 432 were in North Wales.
These can be broken down to:
- Gwynedd 102
- Wrexham 102
- Flintshire 80
- Anglesey 69
- Denbighshire 42
- Conwy 37
840,539 people have now had their booster or third vaccination jab.
The vaccination programme will be stepped up in the coming weeks due to the identification of the Omicron variant on Friday.
The seven-day infection rate in Wales as a whole is now 472.1 per 100,000 people.
The highest rate in Wales is 851.0 in Gwynedd.

- Anglesey 623.9
- Wrexham 498.7
- Flintshire 485.6
- Denbighshire 432.6
- Conwy 422.3
