THE REPAINTING of road markings the same night as a full closure of the A483 caused traffic "chaos" in a Wrexham village.

People have slammed the "ridiculous" timing of the work to paint markings at a set of traffic lights in Gresford on Thursday night.

This is because it coincided with a full northbound closure of the A483 between the Rossett and Gresford junctions for inspection work on the newly resurfaced stretch of carriageway.

The inspection came after dozens of motorists complained that the quality of the resurfacing is a "disgrace".

The quality check - the result of which will be released next week - meant heavy traffic being diverted through Gresford.

People took to social media to slam the decision not to postpone the road marking work.

One person said: "Absolute chaos through the village tonight - whose idea was it to arrange line painting on the same night the dual carriageway is diverted through the village?

"Several near misses with HGV’s honking their horns and the workmen in the middle of the road - total shambles."

Others described it as "chaos", "ridiculous planning" a "farce" and someone even questioned if it's Wrexham Council's "idea of a sick joke".

Another comment said: "How any other road works have been permitted to be done in Wrexham whilst the A483 is being worked on is absolute stupidity."

One woman said she had just finished a 12 hour shift at Wrexham Maelor Hospital to find the village in "total chaos".

"Took me 40 mins to get home - most of which sat in a standstill [in Gresford]," she said.

Wrexham Council was approached for comment on the matter.
