A Wrexham woman has written her debut novel.

Sue Fellows, 65, from Llay, says she has always loved writing, but that The Whytfield Inheritance was just an idea that came to her.

Set in Shropshire in 1965, the story takes place at the fictional Whytfield Hall, which has fallen into disrepair following an incident 30 years prior.

The main character, gardener Dave and his family, battle to stop a compulsory purchase order by the council, which would see the hall knocked down.

She said: "I'd always written stories, but it was just an idea I had. Sort of what's happened after Downton is you like, like if everything went wrong in Downton Abbey. Everybody knows about Downton Abbey don't they but it's when an estate isn't successful through one thing or another and it falls into disrepair. A lot of the estates have had to diversify and do other things to keep them maintained.

"Whytfield Hall was a name that was in my husband's family that has popped up when we were doing a bit of family history."

The author, who writes under the pen name SW Fellows, recently finished her master's degree at Bangor University and wrote her dissertation about crime and mystery fiction, including authors such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers.

She is now working on her second novel of the series, about Inspector Staggs, another Whytfield character.
