TRIBUTES have been paid to a former North Wales Police dog who died.
The Cheshire and North Wales Police dogs team has announced the passing of police dog Barney.
He had served with the North Wales Police dogs section for six years before his retirement.
A statement from the force read: "It is with great sadness we announce the passing of retired PD Barney aged 13 and a half years old.
"Barney served North Wales Police Dog Section from 2011 until he retired in 2017 to a fantastic, loving family who gave him the best retirement he could have wished for and will miss him dearly.
"Run free over the rainbow with your K9 pals, your duty is done."
An outpouring of tributes to Barney came underneath the post on social media.
One user commented: "Barney what a little character you were, a great working life and then a happy retirement xx RIP little lad xx"
Another wrote: "God bless precious boy, heartbroken for you , thank you for protecting us humans & looking after us, I’m so happy that your retirement was the best , you more than thoroughly deserved it!! Run free sweetheart over that very special bridge with all the other beautiful angels.. sleep tight. Not All Heroes Have Two Legs xxxx"
A third added: "Sending love to all who have loved PD Barney over the years. Run free gorgeous boy xx"
A fourth wrote: "Rest in Peace PD Barney you did a wonderful job. Thank for your fantastic service."
