You can now give one of Wales’ many amazing outdoor, active and adventure experiences as a gift.
It’s now easier than ever to discover more outdoor pursuits and benefit from the physical and wellbeing boost that comes from taking on a new experience.
Simon Grice, an experienced website developer, keen glider pilot and recent convert to outdoor activities has launched Wellwild, a website that enables local residents and visitors to Wales to explore the broad range of activities the country has to offer.
This includes sea kayaking off the coast of Anglesey, canoeing over Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and plane flying in Denbigh. As well as numerous other activities across the country.
There’s something for everyone at Wellwild, with the site catering for people of all ages and preferences, from peaceful walks through to high-octane white-water rafting.
Each experience has been curated and quality checked by Simon and his team to ensure it delivers the overarching objective of the site – to inspire people to discover experiences around them and enjoy doing so in the process.
Simon said: “Through Wellwild we’re encouraging and enabling more people to experience and enjoy one or more of the many outdoor, active and adventure experiences Wales has on offer. Users are already discovering or rediscovering the variety of outdoor activities nearby.
“All the experiences showcased on our site have common traits; they’re accessible and open to all, affordable, immersed in nature and the environment, and also good fun.”
The concept for Wellwild came to Simon when he returned to Wales earlier this year – having been living and working abroad for several years – and set off on a back-to-back experience tour of the country.
Over three weeks in June and July, Simon, his team and invited guests from the NHS completed more than 30 experiences from Cardiff to Wrexham.
“What struck me most about this trip was that the hosts, many of whom are running small, independent businesses, are all passionate about what they do and their local surroundings. It’s more than just a job for them; they genuinely care about the experiences they provide – all of which are great fun.
“It’s for those reasons I realised that I wanted to do more to help support these businesses and help and inspire more people to discover and experience what’s on offer around them, and that’s what Wellwild is achieving.”
Through the Wellwild website, visitors are able to browse and book experiences as well as purchase vouchers to give to friends and family as gifts.
These vouchers can be redeemed by the recipient for any experience of their choice, are valid for 12 months and can be used to pay for an entire experience outright or used to part fund a larger booking such as a group activity.
Grice and his team will be visiting a number of Christmas fayres across North Wales where people will get the chance to get a feel of the experiences through virtual reality videos.
