Robbie Savage's new BBC documentary is set for release today.

The hour long sport-film follows Wrexham-born Robbie's journey as the Director of Football at Macclesfield as he aims to rebuild the club alongside friend and club owner Rob Smethurst.

Business man Smethurst purchased the club in October 2020, a month after Macclesfield Town was wound up in high court with debts over £500,000.

The Macclesfield-born owner rebranded the club to Macclesfield FC and with the help of Robbie have tried to raise the phoenix club from the ashes.

'Robbie Savage: Making Macclesfield' airs on BBC iPlayer at 5pm today and is to be broadcast on BBC One on 13th November at 11pm.

To give fans a sneak peak, BBC released a trailer during the week, to whet the appetite for the explosive behind the scenes access of Robbie in action.

The trailer starts with Smethurst saying "I rang my good mate Robbie Savage and said I've bought Macclesfield Football Club and he was like what the f***"

In return Robbie said "Are you for real? Why on earth would you buy a football club? Think about it, it's too late he said."

Rob then goes on to explain how it only took ten minutes on the phone with Robbie to convince him to be a part of it and a year on they can tell their stories.

On Twitter, Robbie described his first year in charge of the Silkmen as emotional , exhausting and incredible.
