TRAVELLERS pitched up at a park in Wrexham could be there for a fortnight, a local councillor has warned.
The small group of caravans arrived at Acton Park on Monday afternoon - the fourth time a traveller encampment has been set up there in the last couple of years.
And Acton Park's county councillor, Geoff Lowe, has slammed Wrexham Council over what he describes as a "reluctance" to enforce measures to move the travellers on.
"Enough is enough - it's about time Wrexham Council started standing up for people who pay council tax," he said.
"I sent an officer to the encampment last night and he was told they intend to stay for the two weeks - which is the time they know it'll likely take for the court order and everything else that needs to be in place for them to be moved on."
Councillor Lowe said Wrexham residents are not getting their money's worth for paying their council tax.
"We're constantly seeing these unauthorised encampments being set up, and the roads are in a poor state - and the footpaths aren't much better.
"It's just not good enough."
Councillor Lowe has welcomed the UK Government's plans for the 'intentional trespass' law which is aimed at stopping illegal traveller encampments, and will give police more enforcement powers to move them on.
"I just hope it's implemented in Wales," he said.
Wrexham Council has been approached for comment on the matter.
