National Reading Group Day

National Reading Group Day takes place on Tuesday, September 14. If you're not already a member of one you might be think why should you join one. There are so many reasons why being part of a reading group is good for you. Participation in shared reading groups is linked to enhanced relaxation, calmness, concentration, quality of life, confidence and self-esteem. You can get book recommendations from the other people in your group, and you might find yourself liking something you never thought you would. 72% of reading group members say they have read more since joining their group. It's a great way to socialise - some groups only discuss the book, but many also catch up on what's going on in their lives outside the group. Joining a reading group is a great way to meet new people and make new friends, especially if you've moved somewhere new. If you would like to start your own group The Reading Agency have a section on their website dedicated to helping you establish and run a reading group, information on how to host a reading group online plus they work in partnership with many publishers and are able to secure free sets of books for reading groups. Book Review

Rules for Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson

The Leader: Rules for Perfect Murders by Peter SwansonRules for Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson

When FBI agent Gwen Mulvey arrives at Malcolm Kershaw's Boston bookshop, specialising in mystery fiction, it is to tell him that she suspects a series of unsolved murders are linked to a posting on his blog listing his eight perfect murders in crime fiction. She believes that someone is using his list and recreating scenarios from writers including Agatha Christie, Patricia Highsmith and Donna Tartt. As Malcolm learns more it becomes clear that the link between him and the murders is more personal then it first appears. This is a very clever book on a number of levels. Peter Swanson has pulled off two very difficult tricks in one book and deserves to be read.
