MOTORISTS are worried over lengthy diversions while as a special investigation is carried out for structural safety on the River Dee viaduct.
The Leader previously reported that overnight closures will take place this week as work is carried out by the Welsh Government.
Work is being completed to ensure the area 'remains in good condition' and will be carried out at night when traffic flows are lower to minimise disruption.
The A483 between J1 and Halton Roundabout will be fully closed over-night for four nights, commencing on Monday, September 6, at 9pm. The final night will be Thursday, September 9.
Motorists have expressed their worry over the lengthy closure which will also affect motorists in Llangollen.
The road will be re-opened by 6am on the following mornings. The diversion route for the A483 over-night closures is via Llangollen on the A5 & A539.
Specialist access equipment is required to inspect the Viaduct. The viaduct is exposed to prevailing weather conditions as it carries the A483 high above the River Dee and its flood plains. The access equipment can only operate in low wind conditions.
The work is being done this month to avoid the summer holiday season but take advantage of the relatively good weather.
A second set of A483 closures will be planned the following week, from September 13-17, when similar inspections are being conducted a few miles further along.
Traffic Wales say this will be from Halton to Gledrid for special inspection and testing of the River Ceiriog Viaduct as required by Welsh Government regulations to ensure it 'remains in good condition and assist in planning any necessary maintenance works'.
