An event showcasing why the region is the perfect location for getting your walking shoes on, gets underway next month.

Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd has teamed up with a local voluntary walking group to urge people to venture outdoors and enjoy the region’s natural beauty spots.

The 2021 Wrexham Walking Festival, which takes place from Saturday, August 7 to Sunday, August 15, invites people of all ages and abilities to enjoy a series of free walks exploring the splendour and history of North East Wales.

Organised by Walkabout Wrexham & District, local MS, Lesley Griffiths is a long-time supporter of the group and the festival.

She said: “As well as promoting our area’s picturesque surroundings, the Wrexham Walking Festival is all about encouraging people to live healthier lifestyles and I commend Walkabout Wrexham & District for all their efforts.

“This summer, as we carefully emerge on the other side of the pandemic, the Welsh Government is advising people to holiday at home and to explore everything Wales has to offer.

"The Wrexham Walking Festival offers the ideal opportunity for people explore the natural beauty spots right on our doorstep.

“Over the years, the festival has attracted walkers from across the UK to visit our region and after spending much of the last year or so indoors, I hope this year’s event will be the most successful yet.”

During the festival, walks take place daily and are graded depending on difficulty. All walks are free of charge and are led by trained leaders.

Participants are reminded to wear suitable clothing and boots. There is no need to book or reserve a place - just turn up on the day at the appropriate meeting place.
