A FLINTSHIRE performing arts student has secured a place in the prestigious National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
Nel Williams, from Mold, has been a pupil at Theatretrain’s school of performing arts in the town for five years, having performed in many of their productions both in local theatres as well as a performance at The Royal Albert Hall.
Theatretrain’s Artistic Director, Steve Davies wasn’t surprised to hear that Nel, 15, had been so successful.
“We had started work on a production before lockdown and Nel was due to be taking one of the lead roles” he said.
A pupil at Ysgol Maes Garmon, Nel also attends theatre workshops at Theatr Clwyd.
She recently auditioned for a place at the National Youth Theatre by starting the process online and on zoom during the lockdown. She performed a monologue to camera, received direction and demonstrated her acting skills to such a level that she was offered a place at the two week intensive course that is due to take place in Northampton this summer.
Nel said: “I can’t wait for the summer course. I’ll be nervous, but it will be great to work on a production that we’ll stage at the end of the two weeks.”
The Theatretrain team will be excited to hear all about Nel’s summer experience when the new term starts in September.
