DOZENS of new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in North Wales.

Public Health Wales figures released on Wednesday reveal that 213 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Wales in the latest 24-hour period.

Again, the highest number of new cases was in the Betsi Cadwalader Health Board region where 71 cases were reported.

Flintshire had the highest number of cases, as it has all week, with 26 new positive tests.

Flintshire and Conwy now have the highest rates of infection in Wales.

Breakdown of new cases by local authority area:

Anglesey 3

Conwy 11

Denbighshire 17

Flintshire 26

Gwynedd 2

Wrexham 12

The seven day rate of infection per 100,000 members of the population in Wales is now 32.2.

In the North, only Anglesey and Gwynedd have rates below the national average.

Flintshire now has the highest rate of coronavirus infection in Wales closely followed by Conwy.

Seven day rate of infection (per 100k of population):

Anglesey 21.4

Conwy 86.2

Denbighshire 75.2

Flintshire 86.5

Gwynedd 26.5

Wrexham 47.1

The increase in North Wales cases comes amid a cluster of cases of the Delta variant across the region and the North West of England.

But hospital admissions remain low.

Sadly, one additional Covid-related death was recorded. There have been 5,573 suspected virus-related deaths in Wales since the start of the pandemic.

More than 1.5 million people in Wales have now been fully vaccinated, with more than 2.2 million receiving at least one dose.
