A WREXHAM campaigner is to team up with a Britain's Got Talent entrant to warn children about the dangers of carrying knives.
The Leader reported recently on the work of Danny Maddocks, whose brother Craig was murdered in a knife attack at the Cambrian Vaults pub, Wrexham, in June 2013. He was 34.
Mr Maddocks continues to campaign against the carrying of blades and as well as running a Facebook page to keep people informed about the impacts of carrying blades, called 'OnTheKnifeEdge', he is a trained 'Knifesaver'.
Now he has teamed up with strongman Stu Goldcrusher (Stuart Goldsmith), known for previously lifting Ant and Dec on Britain's Got Talent during his televised audition for the show, whom he will meet this week to film a video about the dangers of knives.
Mr Goldsmith said: "We're going to be saying 'put down the knife and save a life' - which we're putting together for schools in order to educate the children."
Mr Maddocks said: "We're going to be filming it at Llay Boxing Gym, where my brother boxed throughout his career.
"Stu reached out to me because he does a lot of stuff on knife crime and he'd seen my campaigning.
"It was touching that he wanted to work with me and this will be a good opportunity to spread the message further by getting it out to schools."
North Wales Police confirmed this week that members of the Wrexham town police team met with partners from Wrexham Council and OnTheKnifeEdge to discuss the reintroduction of knife crime awareness sessions in local schools.
The meeting came after Operation Sceptre 2021, a national police anti-knife initiative.
A spokesman for the force said: "Face to face presentations have been impossible during the Covid pandemic, but planning is well underway for this vital resource to return to the classrooms.
"Knife crime campaigner Danny Maddocks is an integral part of the campaign.
"[He] brings a unique personal perspective to the presentations, sharing his experience of losing his brother, but he also offers practical alternatives for youths involved, or in danger of being involved in knife crime."
