MORE parts of Wales are set to reopen next week – if coronavirus remains under control.
Just last week, non-essential retail was allowed to reopen from April 12 along with the full return of schools and the lifting of a cross border travel ban.
Further easements to restrictions in the coming weeks will be subject to the public health situation remaining favourable, Welsh Government stress.
These will be given the green light at the next three-weekly review of the coronavirus regulations on April 22.
As previously set out by the First Minister, Mark Drakeford MS, people can expect to hear about the following on Thursday...
From Monday, April 26:
• Outdoor attractions, including funfairs and theme parks, could be allowed to reopen
• Outdoor hospitality may resume, including at cafes, pubs and restaurants. Indoor hospitality will remain continue to stay closed except for takeaways
Ministers previously brought some measures forward from their original dates in the Coronavirus Control Plan.
Some measures will now be considered sooner than planned as Welsh Government confirmed that cases have fallen “markedly” in the last few weeks and the pressure on hospitals also continues to ease.
Moving forward from May, the Government could potentially have the head room to allow organised outdoor activities for up to 30 people to take place next week. It is also up for consideration if wedding receptions can take place outdoors for a maximum of 30 people.
In the original plan, these two measures were planned to be lifted in early May – providing that conditions remained favourable.
This move also brought the potential reopening of gyms and leisure centres forward by a week – now coming as early as May 3.
We’ll bring you all the latest updates from Welsh Government ahead of the next review on Thursday afternoon.
