WITH lockdown easing and things hopefully returning closer to normality in Wales, a survey has looked at how the pandemic has affected people in Wales.
EduBirdie, a professional writing service, interviewed over 2,000 Brits about the ‘alternative’ ways people made ends meet last year.
One area in looked at was what fast-cash solutions people have turned to over the last year.
It found that 82% of Welsh people had turned to a fast-cash solution.
It found Wales to be a nation of second-hand sellers wirth half of people choosing sell belongings online to make quick money.
In addition, 10% invested in cryptocurrency while 6% started an OnlyFans.
Fast-Cash Solutions
82% of Welsh respondents recorded taking on a ‘side-hustle’ or ‘alternative-job’ in the last year. 50% of Welsh responded that they sold belongings online — making
Wales the nation of second-hand sellers, with participation significantly higher than the British average of 39%. In fact, 77% of 25-34 year olds recorded selling belongings second hand.
The second most popular option was crypto currency, with 10% of Welsh investing.
This still seems to be a very male dominated enterprise, especially in Wales where 92% of investors were men. Crypto currency is also a young-person’s pursuit, with 20% of Welsh 18-24 year olds reporting investing in currencies like BitCoin.
The third most popular fast-cash solution in Wales is more audacious. 6% of Welsh admitted to creating an OnlyFans account to make fast-cash. In fact, although 19% of Welsh 25-34 year olds started an OnlyFans, more mature Welsh creators were also cashing in. Welsh adults aged 35-44 were more than twice as likely to start an OnlyFans account than the national average for their age (17% compared to 7%).
In the majority of cases, Welsh people are making minimal returns from these side-hustles. 77% of Welsh people made less than £500 a month from their side-hustles. However, 7% of respondents claimed to be making over £5000 a month from their alternative job, with 50% of these Welsh moneymakers finding success through CryptoCurrency.

- Selling belongings online 61%
- Invested in crypto currency 12%
