MAJOR building work has recently been completed at a Denbighshire community centre, thanks to National Lottery funding.
The Pentredwr community centre in Llangollen is a dedicated space for residents to meet and hold events (once Covid-19 guidelines permit that).
An undisclosed sum of money from the National Lottery Community Fund has recently allowed the centre, run by the Pentredwr and District Community Association, to carry out extensive work on site.
That work, now complete, included improving access to the building for disabled visitors, making structures on site safe and drainage work.
A statement from the centre read: "This will enhance the current facility and hopefully attract increased usage. Huge thanks from the local community to a small dedicated group of people for pushing the project forward during difficult times."
Pentredwr Community Association and Gwlangollen CIC have also received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for a new Rural Futures project. This will be delivered jointly by the two groups to create Hwb Pentredwr as a rural skills centre.
Sheep production is central to farming in the valley therefore promoting wool and exploring the wider uses of locally produced fleece is a key element of the work the hub will be doing.
The aim of the project is to secure a more prosperous future for local people and strengthen the community by reducing the impact of rural and digital isolation.
The project will work towards securing community prosperity by developing rural skills and enterprise; addressing rural isolation; supporting digital inclusion and access to services thereby strengthening the community.
A statement from the centre added: "We hope that this will be of benefit to the Parish of Llantysilio residents and Community Centre users alike as it will hopefully mean that we will have access to a new wifi system; access to a community transport system from Corwen through Pentredwr to Llangollen, and a wide range of regular heritage craft skills for every-one to enjoy."
