A FLINTSHIRE trio set out on a gruelling task to raise funds for a cause which holds a special place in their hearts.
Ryan Coney, Joe Palmer and Charlie Bradford decided to put on their running shoes to raise thousands for the Giddo's Gift charity, in memory of their friend.
Jordan Giddins, known as Giddo, was diagnosed in November 2015 with Ewings Sarcoma, which was a secondary cancer due to all of his previous treatment.
The disease is a rare type of cancer that affects bones and mainly affects children and young people. He died at the age of 18 in 2016.
The Giddo's Gift charity was set up in memory of Jordan Giddins, known as Giddo, and aims to help other teenagers and young adults going through similar battles.
The trio decided to take part in the gruelling 4x4x48 challenge, which saw them running four miles every four hours for 48-hours.
Starting at 4pm on March 5, the group finished the task on Sunday, March 7 and ran a total of two marathons each.
Ryan told the Leader that the real challenge was the sleep deprivation and running at 4am in the cold and dark.
He said: "It was very, very hard. We didn't get more than two hours sleep at a time, we ran through the night.
"It was so hard and our knees are knackered. The three of us did it for Giddo's Gift but we know a couple of others who did it for other charities like MIND and Macmillan.
"We chose Giddo's Gift because Giddo was in the year above me in school, my mate was his best mate and when Giddo died it had such an effect on everybody, it just seemed like a good charity.
"We initially set the target as £2,000 and then we surpassed that and raised the target to £3,000 and we smashed that. Everyone saw how hard it was."
The trio have so far raised a staggering £3,748.
