AS levels of the virus continue to drop across the country, how are things looking in Wrexham and Flintshire?
Public Health Wales can show exactly how our different communities compare with their mapping feature which was first added to the daily update provided by health officials in response to monitoring COVID-19 in October 2020.
It presents data broken down beyond the standard local authority areas that people could previously access and now shows how individual communities compare.
The data is gathered using Office of National Statistics figures of middle layer super output areas (MSOAs) and present the rolling number of cases in either a seven-day or 21-day window.
Darker areas indicate higher concentrations of the virus whilst lighter areas show lower transmission rates. Many areas of both Flintshire and Wrexham now enter the highest bracket for Welsh communities in the latest set of data.

Here’s what we found in Flintshire:
The latest data paints a really positive picture the county, with almost all areas reporting massive drops in levels of the coronavirus.
There are some areas reporting major pushbacks against the virus like Buckley and Connah’s Quay.
Figures reveal that, during the latest seven-day period, the Holywell and Bagillt area has reported the most new coronavirus reports with 17 cases at a rate of 155.6 cases per 100,000 people. However, the area did give the biggest pushback with its reduction of cases compared to last week.
• Broughton and Saltney - 11 cases and rate of 91.6 cases per 100,000 people; -9 cases from last week
• Buckley North, Northop and Sychdyn - Six cases and rate of 93.4 cases per 100,000 people; -14 case from last week
• Buckley South - 17 Five cases and rate of 49.6 cases per 100,000 people; -12 cases from last week
• Caerwys, Halkyn and Nannerch - Five cases and rate of 61.6 cases per 100,000 people; -6 cases from last week
• Connah’s Quay North - Seven cases and rate of 114.6 cases per 100,000 people; -11 cases from last week
• Connah’s Quay South and Northop Hall – Seven cases and rate of 105.3 cases per 100,000 people; -15 case from last week
• Connah’s Quay Wepre - Eight cases and rate of 108.9 cases per 100,000 people; -7 cases from last week
• Ewloe and Hawarden – Nine cases and rate of 82.8 cases per 100,000 people; -8 cases from last week
• Flint North East – Eight cases and rate of 115.2 cases per 100,000 people; -5 cases from last week
• Flint South West - Three cases and rate of 48.3 cases per 100,000 people; -4 cases from last week
• Gronant, Ffynnongroyw and Trelawnyd - Five cases and rate of 100.2 cases per 100,000 people; remains the same from last week
• Holywell and Bagillt - 17 cases and rate of 155.6 cases per 100,000 people; -20 cases from last week
• Hope –Six cases and rate of 96.9 cases per 100,000 people; -3 cases from last week
• Leeswood, Treuddyn and Gwernaffield - Four cases and rate of 53.8 cases per 100,000 people; -12 cases from last week
• Mold - Nine cases and rate of 88.9 cases per 100,000 people; -9 cases from last week
• Mostyn and Holway – Nine cases and rate of 135.2 cases per 100,000 people; -7 cases from last week
• New Brighton and Mynydd Isa - Four cases and 55.5 cases per 100,000 people; -4 cases from last week
• Pen-y-ffordd and Higher Kinnerton – Five cases and rate of 81.4 cases per 100,000 people; -2 cases from last week
• Queensferry and Sandycroft - Four cases and rate of 71.9 cases per 100,000 people; -7 cases from last week
• Shotton and Garden City - 13 cases and rate of 128.4 cases per 100,000 people; +1 case from last week
Here’s what we found in Wrexham:
Over the border in Wrexham, the county was known to be one of the worst hit areas when it comes to coronavirus a few weeks ago. But the situation has changed dramatically and they’re now one of the best for North Wales.
This data shows every community continued to drive down their figures in the last seven days with some massive improvements in some areas, with a handful reporting the lowest amount (0-2).
Areas such as the Wrexham West community saw the best efforts to drive down their numbers after being the most impacted areas of the county last week.
The map reports that current figures place the Coedpoeth and Brymbo area as having the highest number of new cases - recording a total of 13 with a rate of 142.5 at present.

• Bangor-on-Dee, Penley and Overton – Five cases and rate of 75.2 cases per 100,000 people; -1 case from last week
• Borras and Rhosnesni - Six cases and rate of 123.9 cases per 100,000 people; -2 cases from last week
• Caia Park - Five cases and rate of 70.0 cases per 100,000 people; -6 cases from last week
• Cefn Mawr - Three cases and rate of 32.7 cases per 100,000 people; -20 cases from last week
• Chirk and Ceiriog Valley - Seven cases and rate of 108.0 cases per 100,000 people; -7 cases from last week
• Coedpoeth and Brymbo - 13 cases and rate of 142.5 cases per 100,000 people; -9 cases from last week
• Gresford, Marford and Rossett - Nine cases and rate of 63.0 cases per 100,000 people; -10 cases from last week
• Gwersyllt West and Summerhill – Seven cases and rate of 118.1 cases per 100,000 people; -14 case from last week
• Hermitage and Whitegate – Five cases and rate of 57.1 cases per 100,000 people; -12 cases from last week
• Johnstown North and Rhostyllen – Three cases and rate of 48.9 cases per 100,000 people; -17 cases from last week
• Llay South and Gwersyllt East - Three cases and rate of 37.4 cases per 100,000 people; -6 cases from last week
• New Broughton and Bryn Cefn - 5 cases and rate of 64.4 cases per 100,000 people; -10 cases from last week
• Pen-y-cae and Minera – 0-2 cases and rate of less than 35 cases per 100,000 people; -18 cases from last week
• Rhosllannerchrugog and Johnstown South - Five cases and rate of 71.1 cases per 100,000 people; -12 cases from last week
• Ruabon and Marchwiel – 0-2 new cases and rate of less than 31 cases per 100,000 people; -6 cases from last week
• Town North, University and Rhos-ddu - Seven cases and rate of 78.8 cases per 100,000 people; -5 cases from last week
• Wrexham West – Six cases and rate of 72.0 cases per 100,000; -29 cases from last week
