READERS have had their say about what should be done with Buckley's Old Baths.

The Leader reported earlier this week on a public consultation over development opportunities for the site - which has remained unused for more that 15 years.

Ideas initially suggested include a community hub and venue, heritage centre, artisan market and wedding venue.

Readers took to the Leader's Facebook page to offer their suggestions.

Neil Davies said: "Put it back to a swimming pool - it was a great pool.

"Used to cycle from Hawarden to Buckley every Saturday with my best friend. Great happy days."

Tiesha Mealor said: "With those beams I would love to turn it into an animal free circus [or] aerial performance school."

Emma Neths posted: "Back to be a swimming baths where you can actually go and take the kids for a good play and swim."

Ken Jones said: "A theatre and events centre where children and organisations can put events on."

Hilary Roscoe said: "Back to [a] swimming pool - it will pay for itself."

Wayne Jones suggested an indoor fishing lake while Helen Brown said: "Love the idea of an artisan market."

On Twitter Jonathan Hughes said: "It would be a shame to lose the baths element.

"From Buckley but moved to Chester and the old baths here are very popular."

David Rogers Tweeted: "A luxury spa - make Buckley a Spa town," and Andrew Roberts added: "Culture space, for art, comedy, drama and music."

Councillor Ellis, one of the trustees and directors of Old Buckley Baths Community Hall Ltd which owns the site, said: "We would like as many people to get involved as possible - we really want to hear what they have to say and what they'd like to happen.

"The history of this site is immense and we have been working with the Buckley Society to incorporate that history and heritage in the final result."

There is an online questionnaire now available, and this will be open until the end of February 2021.
