RESIDENTS across Wrexham had to be rescued from their homes after Storm Christoph wreaked havoc on Wednesday evening.

North East Wales Search and Rescue volunteers were called out to assist North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue service with a number of incidents.

An inflatable rescue sled was needed to rescue residents of flooded properties in New Broughton and a motorist had to be rescued from the roof of his car at Wrexham Industrial Estate.

A spokesman for NEWSAR said: "North Wales Police called us to assist North Wales Fire and Rescue Service / Gwasanaeth Tân ac... with a number of incidents this evening.

These included: Rescuing residents of flooded properties in New Broughton, Wrexham by use of our inflatable rescue sled.

"Going door to door with Fire Fighters checking on other residents affected by flooding.

"A rescue of a motorist from the roof of his car near Wrexham Industrial Estate

"Standing by to assist in other nearby areas.

"A massive thank you to a couple of householders in New Broughton who provided hot drinks and biscuits for team members.
