A COUNCILLOR has slammed 'irresponsible' covidiots who are not following the rules during a global pandemic.

Shotton Councillor Mike Evans said it has 'become apparent' people across Deeside are 'blatantly' ignoring or disrespecting the current rules.

These include not sanitising their hands, keeping their distance and not wearing a face covering.

Residents across Wales must stay at home unless for reasonable excuses such as essential shopping.

He said: "One of the shops in Shotton was very concerned that some people just don't come in alone but as groups, not wearing masks or social distancing and they feel quite intimated.

"It's also happening in Connah's Quay along the main road shops."

Cllr Evans is calling for wardens or policing of towns to ensure valuable workers are not put at risk and 'law abiding customers are not put in compromising situations'.

He told the Leader that workers in Shotton and across Deeside feel 'intimidated' and if they say anything they are hurled with 'verbal abuse'.

He added this was completely 'unacceptable' and 'disgusting' behaviour anyway but during a pandemic is 'unthinkable'.

Cllr Evans said some businesses have not received guidance or support since last April and says more needs to be done to avoid situations workers face on a regular basis.
