GLAMOUR HOUSE, Buckley
One of the questions I ask our traders and producers, is 'how long has the business been running?'.
But when I first spoke with Kate Jones, it hadn't even started.
Tomorrow will see her celebrate her first week of trading as owner of women's clothes shop, Glamour House, in Buckley.
Starting a new business during a pandemic, in between lockdowns, might not sound like the best idea but the 37-year-old has no regrets, in fact opening day was an overwhelming success.
Of the opening, Kate said: "It's been so positive. I sold half my stock in the first day!"
And her inspiration? She said: "Being a larger lady myself I have always struggled to find nice different clothing that fits at a reasonable cost, so I feel very passionate in making other women feel great.
"We sell women's clothing for all shapes and sizes, from 8-28, and a small children's range with matching tracksuits to mum's.
"We have lots of accessories, from unusual handbags and scarves to shoes and jewellery. But nothing in the shop is over £45.
"I'm extremely proud to be providing larger clothes to beautiful women at affordable prices."
It was almost always meant to be, with Kate's mum, Gay Smith, having once owned her own shop too.
Kate said: "My mum had a fashion shop down south in the 80s called Glamour Puss.
"I have always admired my mum and wanted to follow in her footsteps. I'm just kicking myself I haven't done it sooner.
"I choose the name so it was similar to hers. I feel extremely blessed to have my mum's input and support.
"Myself and my mum are the best of friends, we do everything together. We are also rather bonkers."
And the sentiment at the heart of the new business is refreshing, Kate adds: "The aim of Glamour House is to make other women feel fantastic and bring some joy to Buckley."
