HUNDREDS of elderly and vulnerable people will receive a special Christmas dinner thanks to selfless volunteers.
Over 1,000 meals will be cooked for the vulnerable which will then be distributed across Flintshire, Wrexham, Chester and Denbighshire.
The Leader reported how James Hunt, a 40-year-old former soldier, hosted a Christmas dinner at his parents’ home for seven residents who would otherwise have been alone.
Last year, this went bigger and better as dozens of people attended a Christmas party organised by Mr Hunt and his army of volunteers.
Mr Hunt runs a community group called Nanny Biscuit (which he named in memory of his grandmother) and has gone from strength to strength in helping those in need, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
Sadly, due to the coronavirus restrictions, this means Christmas will look and feel completely different this year, but Mr Hunt wants to play his part to ensure people are not left out.
He said: “We held a really positive Zoom call to discuss what we could do and we found kitchens and organisations jumped on board to help so on December 27 we will be making 1,000 meals.
“A lot of organisations have jumped on board to help with this so we are really targeting the people that need it.
“We are also feeding every homeless person in Chester and in Wrexham and we have two Father Christmas’ that will deliver presents to families that we identify.
“We also want to have carol singers and a marching band to play outside of care homes for maximum benefit for the people inside and the carol singers will be visiting people who are nominated to us.
“We are spinning quite a few plates but we couldn’t have people coming to a party this year so we are taking the party to them.”
Money supermarket is providing 300 meals paid for by them and Newydd catering and cleaning are cooking 700 meals and providing volunteers to cook them.
Other volunteering organisations involved in the scheme include: No22 from Wrexham, FLVC, Soul kitchen, The good news mission Rhyl, Cheshire west council, Avow from Wrexham, Helping homeless Wrexham, The co op Flintshire are proving 10 volunteers, The Red Cross are providing volunteers and vehicles to deliver the food, Art and soul tribe, Plas Madoc and Picture house films.
James added: “It’s going to be amazing and a busy day but I’ve seen how well our volunteers work.
“The connections we’ve made and the confidence as an organisation has grown, knowing we can get stuff done and help people.
“Everything we’ve done seems to work well, we’ve gained confidence and more people who know there is help out there.
“It’s brilliant to see the community coming together.”
