A DEVOTED Wrexham fan was stunned when one of the new owners of his beloved club stepped in to make a donation for an appeal that will make a big difference to his life.
Wrexham-fan Aiden Stott, son of the founder of the Wrexham AFC Disabled Supporters Association, launched a GoFundMe campaign to purchase an adapted bath for his new flat.
Wheelchair-user Aiden has just moved to Manchester to be closer to his family and needs the adaptation as he struggles to use a regular bath or shower.
Just a day after launching the campaign, Aiden, who has cerebral palsy, was stunned to see a donation for £6,000, the full amount of his goal, by a supporter using the name Rob McElhenney.
Wrexham fans have been quick to thank Rob on social media.
One tweeted: "Fair play @RMcElhenney that is some gesture."
Another said: "Enjoy your new bath, pal!"
And another tweeted: "That is beautiful to see!"
Wrexham fan Aiden needs a bath!
Launching his fundraiser, Aiden said: "I am trying to save and raise money for an adapted bath for my new flat. I have just moved to Manchester to be closer to my family because my care has been cut. I am a wheelchair user and currently my family struggle to bath and shower me in a 'normal' bath.
"I have cerebral palsy, I have no use of my left hand side and very limited use of my right hand side. There is very little I can do physically on my own but I have a voice and I am attempting to use it here appealing to the kindness of friends and strangers. I am on a waiting list to be assessed by social services but due to the covid situation and an already stretched service I feel I need to be more proactive and try and help my own situation. It isn’t guaranteed that I would be given the bath by social services either.
"I have been quoted £6,000 for a bath and hoist that is mechanically adapted. This will mean I can get in and out of the bath safely and won’t put my family and carers at risk of injury when trying to keep me clean. I realise that it is a lot of money for a household item but my safety and hygiene are important to me."
Although moving to Manchester, Aiden says he will remain a season ticket holder and will still be at The Racecourse every other week to watch his team play.
He said: "You won't be able to keep me away from The Racecourse!"
Actor and producer Rob, in partnership with Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, confirmed their takeover of Wrexham AFC on Monday.
They say they are committed to elevating, not only the historic football club, but also the town and county of Wrexham.
It appears as if they have wasted no time to show they are true to their word.
