A FORMER Flintshire MP has been selected for a knighthood in the Queen’s Honours List.
The previous Delyn MP, Rt. Hon. David Hanson, has been recognised for political service in the recent announcement made for the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Mr Hanson will be knighted according to the list published this evening, October 9.
Speaking to the Leader, he said: “I am honoured and humbled to have received this recognition for political service in the birthday honours list.
“I want to thank all Delyn residents over all the years I was candidate for the chance I had to serve and to Delyn Labour Party for the opportunity they gave me. I also want to thank my family for all their support.“
During his parliamentary career, Hanson was a member several committees and held ministerial roles.
These included being Minister of State from May 2007 until June 2009. He was then Minister of State for Security, Counter-Terrorism, Crime and Policing at the Home Office from 2009 until 2010.
Mr Hanson served the constituency of Delyn as Labour MP for more than 25 years until he was succeeded by Conservative MP Rob Roberts in 2019.
The dad-of-four says his proudest moment as a politician came from the work he did nationally in Northern Ireland by helping with the complex peace process - plus voting for the minimum wage - locally.
He added: "I just hope that I did a good job with the many issues brought to me and was an accessible local MP who supported people when asked."
Labour MS for Delyn, Hannah Blythyn, commented: “It is fantastic to see David being recognised for his years of public service, both as constituency MP for Delyn and his time as a Minister in Government.
“David served the people of Delyn with honesty, integrity, and diligence, and is truly deserving of this Honour. “
Alongside Hanson, The Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 awards more than 1,490 titles to people across the whole of the UK for their outstanding contributions to UK society. In this list, over 100 are from Wales.
The list was postponed from June in order to honour recipients who are making an outstanding contribution to tackle coronavirus in their communities.
