A FLINTSHIRE town centre shone gold in honour of children fighting cancer.

Flint town centre businesses were asked if they’d bare the colour most associated with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to raise funds for a local charity that are doing just that.

Flint-based Giddo’s Gift received a total of £500 in donations after the town donned their signature colour.

The Giddo's Gift charity was set up in memory of Flint teenager Jordan Giddins, known as Giddo, who died in 2017 aged just 18 following a battle with Ewings Sarcoma - a rare type of cancer that affects bones and mainly affects children and young people.

The charity's aim is to help raise money and awareness of other teenagers and young adults battling childhood cancer, and has donated £24,000 to cancer research in the last three years.

A charity spokesman said: “Over 30 shops and businesses turned Gold to honour Angels and hero’s battling Cancer. They also donated to the charity.

“We are overwhelmed by all the support we receive so thank you so much!

“A huge thank you to Neil Roberts from Third Avenue Events who went round all evening lighting up the Town and helping us raise so much awareness. Also thank you to Paul Williams who came along to take photos.”

Neil, who helped bring the golden lights to businesses in the town centre, said that everyone has been so generous.
