A THROWAWAY social media post from eight years ago resurfaced after a certain A-lister had his say on the latest Wrexham-based news.
Shannon May, from Wrexham but now living on the Wirral, received a flurry of messages on Wednesday night to reactivate her social media account – and couldn’t believe the reason why.
Wrexham AFC announced on Wednesday, September 23, that the Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were the two mystery investors that showed an interest in buying the local club.

Reynolds - famed for his role as superhero character Deadpool – didn’t wait long to break his silence on social media.
The Canadian actor took to Twitter to respond to the news by replying to a tweet posted almost a decade ago where two friends jokingly said ‘you never know when Ryan Reynolds is going to turn up in Wrexham’.
Much to their surprise, Reynolds replied years later with "Yep, you never know" sparking a social media frenzy.
Speaking to the Leader, Shannon said: “I suppose my main reaction was to be shocked at first. I’d been off Twitter for about two years prior and a friend sent me a picture of the tweet asking if that was me he was replying to after recognising my handle.

“I logged in to check out what the fuss was all about and surely enough it was true. It is crazy to think Ryan has seen that tweet and decided to reply. It is all so bizarre!
“I’ve been to watch Wrexham a few times when I was younger with my dad. I can’t say I’m an avid supporter or anything like that, but I know how huge this will be for the town and just what Wrexham needs.”
Shannon adds that its ‘refreshing’ to hear some positive news for a change with all the doom and gloom of coronavirus dominating the headlines.
She continued: “The whole thread stemmed from a bit of a boring day really. I responded to a tweet by my friend about my life drawing class in college where we had to draw a middle-aged man and I jokingly replied saying it would be a lot better if we were drawing someone like Ryan Reynolds which is where the tweet about him maybe coming to Wrexham was from.
“It was an off the hand kind of comment, never thinking we’d actually see Ryan Reynolds walking around Wrexham. Yet, here we are with his potentially buying the football club!”
