CONCERNS have been raised as schools across the country continue to report cases of coronavirus.
Schools have been back a matter of weeks and four schools in Flintshire and one in Wrexham have already had to ask year groups to self-isolate.
Leader readers were quick to express their concerns, however opinions were divided, with some parents urging schools to close, but others saying children need their education.
Barbara Jones said: “The schools are not safe, they need to close them now before we have a generation feeling the guilt of thinking they are responsible for killing their grandparents, parents, each other.
“Two of my kids have caught a cold in school last week, if they can catch a cold then they can catch covid 19. There is no social distancing, close them back down now.”
Keith Arrowsmith said: “It needs to be sorted before it gets out of hand again, there is a school in the UK every day where the virus is hitting, and people sent home. Do something now before it's too late.”
Pete Morris added: “I suspect kids will be isolating for 50 per cent of the whole school year. Not sure how people will get back to work if households are isolating for 50 per cent of the year.
“It's an enormous issue while the 14 day isolation rule remains in place. Perhaps education just needs to be suspended for a year.”
Karen Jones said: “We knew this was coming.”
The Leader has previously reported issues with the testing system with Wrexham residents having to travel to Telford and being turned away due to lack of availability, and people queuing for hours to get to Deeside.
Some parents have raised concerns over sending whole year groups home to self-isolate.
Jill White said: “This is going to be a regular occurrence I'm sorry to say. I understand how worrying it is for parents but kids need some normality in their lives.
“As much as we'd like them to be away from all this, it's something that's going to be here for a while so we all need to look after ourselves as best we can. Love to all you mums and dads you all deserve a medal.”
Kim Hughes said: “My son was sent home for having a dry mouth. My younger two aren’t allowed to school today because they had a runny nose at the weekend. I had to call school and see if they are allowed to school. They are well with NO COVID symptoms, no temperature, nothing they are four days into a new term, and they’ve missed so much work already due to this virus. The Weather is changing now it’s getting colder, so cases of cold and seasonal flu are on the rise.”
Amy Louise added: “What did everyone expect? You keep them away from society for 6 months, let their immune systems drop and then pile them all back in at the same time. I'm lucky my eldest two have only caught head colds the first week back.”
Emma Jones said: “It’s good that the year 3 class is self-isolating but yet their siblings in different year groups are still attending the school! It’s going to spread like wildfire, the whole households should be self-isolating.”
