. A “LOVELY and hardworking” health care worker from Wrexham took her own life, a coroner has concluded.
Selena Williams, 46, of Heol Maelor in Coedpoeth was found hanged at her home address on June 26, 2019.
On Tuesday (September 15), at County Hall in Ruthin, an inquest held into Miss Williams’ death recorded a conclusion of suicide.
The court heard that a neighbour of Miss Williams had been alerted to her death on the evening of June 26, 2019 by Miss Williams’ partner who had been frantically banging on the door shouting the word “no” over again.
Emergency services attended the address and provided CPR, but despite their best efforts she was pronounced dead at 10.45pm.
They found evidence that Miss Williams had also taken prescription drugs.
A post-mortem examination carried out in the wake of her death concluded that Miss Williams had died as a result of hanging, and the level of anti-depressants found in her blood was at a level that would most likely have been toxic, rather than fatal.
The post-mortem also found that Miss Williams had 180 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
However, Mr Gittins said she had not consumed alcohol to a level whereby she did not understand her actions.
The court heard that Miss Williams had battled mental health problems for a number of years, which worsened after the death of her husband.
A statement read out in court on behalf of Miss Williams’ father, Thomas Strange, said: “She was a lovely girl and I always saw her as my baby.
“Unfortunately we knew from a young age that she had some mental health issues, but that didn’t get in the way of her always being polite or her work."
