THE host of a paranormal investigation show says celebrities taking part in this year's I'm a Celebrity could have a close encounter as it is being filmed in one of Wales' most haunted buildings.
Actor Nathan Head, who hosts the five episode first series of Apparitions on Amazon Prime, says there are lots of accounts of ghost sightings at Gwyrch Castle in Abergele.
ITV announced that the 20th series of the popular reality show - which attracts on average more than nine million viewers - will be hosted at the 200-year-old ruined castle rather than in the Australian jungle as in previous years.
With its sprawling design and turrets, the site is spread across 250 acres of gardens and grounds.
But, as with most old buildings, it is believed to have more than its fair share of ghostly inhabitants.
Nathan, who has appeared in Doctor Who and most recently in the film Bill & Ted Face the Music, said: "I've heard lots of stories about Paranormal activity happening in the Countess's Tower there, and people have claimed to have actually see the Countess herself roaming the gardens like a lost phantom.
"There's also been many reports of the ghost of a game keeper in the old Coachhouse there as well as the mournful spirit of a Dairy Maid.
"But the most frightening witness accounts I've heard come from those who have sighted the spectre of the Earl of Dundonald himself, legend has it that he was a tyrant in life and it's claimed he stole Gwrych Castle from the Countess after she died.
Nathan, who lives in Delamere, said Apparitions has familiarised him with old buildings and their associated ghost stories.
He added: "The show - five episodes, covering Witchcraft, Ghosts, hauntings, Poltergeists, Alien abductions, cropcircles, angels, premonitions.
"In one episode I explore the old crypt of a long-dead saint and in another I spend time in a haunted cellar, and encounter bizarre sounds.
Presenters Ant and Dec will host the adapted version of I’m A Celebrity 2020 live every night on ITV from the castle this Autumn.
As on the regular series, viewers will see the celebrities undertake gruelling trials and fun-filled challenges to win food and treats in the lead up to one of them being crowned, for the first time ever, King or Queen of the Castle.
No celebrities have been confirmed yet, although drag performers The Vivienne and Baga Chipz, actress Tamsin Outhwaite, Eric Cantona, dancer AJ Pritchard, and 'LadBaby' Mark Hoyle are among those tipped to take part.
