A WHALE that sadly died after beaching on the sand banks of the Dee Estuary this weekend has been recovered.
The Leader reported this weekend that the whale calf was first discovered on Friday, June 12, before successfully being pushed back out to sea.
However it was found stranded again on Saturday morning near Greenfield and - despite the best efforts of rescuers - its prospects of survival were said to be looking very bleak on Saturday evening.
After several attempts to re-float, sadly the whale’s carcass was found on Sunday morning.
It is Natural Resources Wales' (NRW) responsibility to recover the whale, as it owns the part of the estuary where the whale was found.
A spokesman for NRW said on Monday: "The whale has been moved to a secure site where specialists will carry out a post-mortem investigation. No further information is available at this stage."
