A WREXHAM guitar teacher has organised the release of a charity single to raise vital funds for the Unbeatable Eva campaign.
Dale Irving – along with the help of 30 local schoolchildren – has virtually put together a charity single that will help raise money for the campaign that has been running to help a young girl from Wrexham receive pioneering treatment to extend her quality of life.
Dale told the Leader: “I had saw the charity to help Eva beforehand and donated what I could myself but thought it would be good to do something special and help raise a bit more.”
Eva’s parents, Paul and Carran, launched a fundraising campaign to send her to America for pioneering treatment to extend her quality of life.
The community has rallied together to support the family and the initial target of £250,000 was reached and exceeded in a matter of weeks.
At present, the campaign has raised more than £273,000 but has a target set at £500,000.
The family are still pinning their hopes on getting Eva on a medical trial in the USA, initially at New York University Langone Health, but now due to travel restrictions and a halt to treatment they are considering other options with the hope of the lifeline treatment starting in the next two months.
To raise extra cash, Dale has released on song that he has been working on with children he teaches in Wrexham.
He said: “I wrote the song as structurally easy as I could so that my students could get involved and maybe play some of the guitar parts. When school stopped because of COVID-19, and the lessons stopped as well, the song kind of came to a halt.
“When I knew we had a few more weeks of lockdown ahead of us I thought about the best way to use this song to help and see if any parents were interested in their kids getting involved by singing the chorus and edit it all together to sound like one big thing.”
Working with a local singing teacher, Becky Roberts, Dale has been able to craft the song by incorporating recordings of the children singing at home – including his own six-year-old daughter and even some of Eva’s schoolfriends from Rofft Primary School.
Dale added that the song itself ‘Love Can Save Us Now’ is about giving thanks also to key workers and the NHS
He said: “I originally wrote the first verse back when I was in school but I have changed it a little now, its basically about helping people out and it’s all really positive and that’s definitely something we all need a little bit of in these times.
“It was great to hear from Becky that the kids she has helped get involved with this have all said they enjoyed themselves and they also can’t wait to hear the finished product.
“I am really excited to be able to share this with people as I know a lot of work has gone into this. People can pay as much as they would like for the song, I've set the minimum donation on my page to £1.35 as PayPal take about 35p for each transaction so that means at least £1 from every sale will towards Eva’s campaign.”
