WE asked Leader readers to get in touch and share a thank you message to the hundreds of key workers who are going out to work to keep Wrexham and Flintshire going in unprecedented times - despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Hundreds of people responded to our call to give a message of thanks to a key worker they knew – from shop assistants keeping shelves stocked and council workers maintaining services as best they can to the care workers and NHS staff helping to heal and keep people safe from the COVID-19 virus.

LAURA PIERCE – COMMUNITY NURSE FROM WREXHAM:
JoJo Pearce said: “My sister-in-law Laura Pierce from Wrexham, a community nurse working for the NHS! You’re doing a fab job during this time keeping people safe!”
ALISON EDWARDS – SHOP ASSISTANT FROM WREXHAM:
Daniel Edwards said: “This is my mum, Alison Edwards. She is a shop assistant at the Spar petrol station in Wrexham. She has been an incredible provider for the family of 6, she is also going out of her way to provide from my Grandparent and neighbours.
“She's keeping the whole family together through this difficult time and she's doing an amazing job in work.”
GAIL ROBERTS – CARE HOME CATERING ASSISTANT FROM WREXHAM:
Kelly Jones said: “My amazing, beautiful mother Gail Roberts. She is a supervisor catering assistant at pending care home.
“She works incredibly hard and also goes back and to, to her mother with shopping and getting her medication making sure she has everything she needs so she can stay at home safe while she is also making sure me and my brother and her eight grandchildren are also all ok. I love you mum xx”
EMILY MCLEOD – CARE HOME ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR FROM WREXHAM:
Nina Elson said: “She goes way beyond her needs for the residents so they can still keep in contact with their family’s and activities for them to keep their minds off everything.
“She’s the best activities coordinator and carer out there, nothing too big or small and nothing is a hassle. She also won the British Care Award 2019 out the whole region.”
GAIL JONES – INTENSIVE CARE UNIT FROM WREXHAM:
El Jackson said: “My aunty Gail Jones, from Ponciau, who is frontline at intensive care in Wrexham Hospital working all hours to save others.
“She is the most caring and loving person in our family who always puts others first. She deserved recognition before coronavirus.”
KELLY MADDOCKS – HEALTHCARE SUPPORT WORKER FROM WREXHAM:
JoJo Pearce said: “My best friend Kelly Maddocks, a healthcare support worker at the Maelor hospital. Working night shifts and trying to juggle a young family! Truly amazing!”
JADE MOORE – CARER FROM WREXHAM:
Julie Gregson said: “I would like to thank and nominate my daughter Jade Moore.
“We both work for Pendine Park but Jade works at high field. She is 25 on Saturday, she has just moved into her first house and is a single mum to a beautiful little girl Olivia who will be two in July.
“She works three days a week and does a great job as well as her work colleagues and she also looks after my daughter Abileigh so I can work. She is young and scared with this virus but is still looking after her residents and keeping her daughter safe.”
PHILLIP ROBERTS – SHOP ASSISTANT FROM WREXHAM:
Emma Roberts said: “My brother Philip Roberts is a shop assistant at the local Nisa.
“He works hard, makes sure myself and daughter are ok and makes sure my mother and sister are ok too.
“If we need any shopping he kindly gets it for me, my mum and sister. We love him loads and would be lost without him. Keep up the good work and stay safe.”
NATHAN LEWIS – CARE WORKER FROM WREXHAM:
Amanda Lewis said: “My husband Nathan from Penycae who works at Rhos Hall Home as a care worker.
“Very proud of you, you’re amazing! The stuff you do keep keeping them all safe in your job and keep yourself safe too. We all love you so very much.”
LUCY JONES – THEATRE NURSE FROM WREXHAM:
Kelly Newns said: “This is Lucy Jones. She has been training with the ITU nurses to learn skills which will enable her to assist the intensive care unit with the increase of Coronavirus patients.
“She has also been busy creating a wellness room for her team to relax and unwind because it’s important to look after the people looking after you too. She is so selfless, hardworking and dedicated and I am proud to call her my friend!”
FLINTSHIRE COMMUNITY RESOURCE TEAM:
Allie Jayne McLoughlin said: “To all my amazing colleagues on the community resource team in Flintshire and all community teams.
“We are the unseen frontline supporting COVID-19 patient at home. This team are all amazing and go out of their way to help people but also fiercely support each other. Amazing! So proud to work with each and every one of you.”
DANIELLE KNOWLES – NURSE FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Monica Louise said: “This is Danielle, she is a nurse at the Chester Countess Hospital.
“She has been working so hard, learning more new skills each day to try save people’s life’s. She got two beautiful children who she cannot see at the moment which is making it even harder.
“She is so selfless, hardworking and dedicated and we all so proud of you!”
DECLAN MAYO – PARAMEDIC FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Zoe Veysey said: “This is Declan, my amazing boyfriend who works for Welsh Ambulance Service. In his spare time, he’s one of the team members for NEWSAR (North East Wales Search and Rescue) too.”
BECKY BUXTON – RETAIL WORKER FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Garry Buxton said: “My beautiful wife Becky Buxton has been working very hard in Buckley home bargains. Me and our three kids are very proud of her and love her millions. She is a credit to the community.”
CHARLOTTE SMETHURST – HEALTH WORKER FROM FLINTSHIRE:
James Smethurst said: “My wonderful daughter works at Llys Elinor Assisted Living in Shotton. She always puts other people before herself and I’m very proud of the hard work she does.”

Jason Hastings said: “My 17-year-old daughter Halle Hastings is a supermarket worker at Asda in Saltney, not one complaint about going in to work.”
JULIE JONES – NURSE FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Philip Hughes said: “My amazing mum Julie Jones as newly qualified nurse on ward B Holywell Hospital. Works long days giving the best possible care to the vulnerable patients on her ward, especially in these very difficult times.
“In work she might just be nurse Julie, but to her kids/grandkid she’s the biggest hero and role model.”
CRAIG JONES – ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Tracy Sankey-Jones said: “This is Craig Jones from Deeside who is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Glan Clwyd Hospital. In his spare time he has been helping to train people for St John Ambulance Cymru to help out with the COVID outbreak.”
HEATHER LAMBERT – CARER FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Emma Bircham said: “This is Heather Lambert, she’s a carer for the elderly.
“She goes out every day to make sure her clients get the things they need. She makes sure they have as much of a normal day as possible in these circumstances. So proud of her and to call her my best friend.”
DANNII APRIL – CARE WORKER FROM FLINTSHIRE:
Tracy Sankey-Jones said: “This is Dannii April, she is a Care Worker in Deeside at Sycamore Lodge and has been helping to keep residents safe.
“She is also a volunteer for St John Ambulance Cymru and has been training in her spare time so that she can help out at field hospitals when needed.”
