A BUSINESS in Flintshire has donated large quantities of material to support frontline key workers during the pandemic.

The Abakhan Fabrics, Hobby and Home in Mostyn, Holywell, who are one of the UK's leading suppliers of fabrics, crafts, haberdashery and knitting yarns, took to social media to inform the public of its initiative.

They posted: "We completely support the actions of the NHS in their fight against Covid-19.

"Our direct act of support saw us on Friday (April 17) send out 1,250 metres of free fabrics, 700 metres of elastic and 1,000 metres of webbing to amazing people who are sewing scrubs, masks and hospital related items that are so needed at the moment.

"Keep up the good work and stay safe."

Their original Facebook post proved extremely popular, as it received over 2,000 reactions, over 400 comments which included a large quantity of images consisting of newly created PPE from the donated material, and was shared nearly 600 times.

A spokesperson for the Abakhan Fabrics, Hobby and Home in Mostyn, told the Leader: "On behalf of the Abakhan family, we were very keen to support the NHS and their key workers in the best way we could.

"We had seen a monumental effort from our amazing customers in terms of making scrubs for the frontline NHS staff, so we thought that the best was to support this was to donate fabric, elastic and webbing to make scrubs.

"In total, we have donated approximately 1,500 metres of fabric - which should make around 375 sets of scrubs in the region.

"Amazingly, we've just managed to get some NHS and medical grade fabrics onto our website - so it's been a relief to be able to support this."

The business, who have 10 stores in the UK, are now in the process of potentially providing fabric for another 1,500 set of scrubs.
