WAVES of applause rang out across the UK as residents opened their windows and doors to clap for our carers on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.
A social media campaign was launched last week urging people to show their appreciation for our NHS frontline heroes and thousands of people across the counties answered that call.
At 8pm on March 26, houses opened their windows and doors to clap and mark the gratitude for NHS workers that are currently working to keep the nation safe as COVID-19 spreads across the country.
The Clap For Carers campaign, which started online, was staged because “during these unprecedented times they need to know we are grateful”, according to the organisers.
Leader readers had their say on the event that captured hearts around the nation.
Steve Boswell said: “We lit up blue for our NHS Heroes. From the bottom of my heart and from the nation, thank you and we love you.
“You are all angels looking after us all and we thank you in ways words can never express. We are deeply grateful for everything you are doing and have done too. Please keep safe.”
Elaine Edwards said: “Gwynfryn clapped and cheered from every corner of our small village.”
Karen Mawdsley added: “I cried after my 6th shift in Blacon coming out to applause and cheers. THANK YOU.”
Sue Johnson said: We took part in Pentre Halkyn. Thank you to all of our key workers. We are so very grateful to you all.”
Landmarks across the UK - including The Wembley Arch, the Principality Stadium, the Royal Albert Hall and Lincoln Cathedral – were also lit up in blue during the nationwide salute.
Shirley Irvine said: “We have shown our support in New Brighton Mold tonight for our NHS and all Carers. Bless them all and keep them safe and well.
Sarah Louise Royce added: “A brilliant show of respect and appreciation to the NHS and our key workers who are doing a fantastic job!”
Police officers were also seen with their blue lights on near Wrexham Maelor hospital and applauded to show their support.
