A PAIR of Wrexham lifesavers are setting off on their own Italian Job - but they won't be going to Italy.

John Peers and Chris Jones, who are both Blood Bikes riders, will be passing through seven countries during their fundraising drive in a Mini Cooper after setting off from Wrexham on Thursday morning.

They were inspired by the classic film The Italian Job, starring Michael Caine, Benny Hill and Noel Coward, which is set in the historic Italian city of Turin.

But the current coronovirus pandemic means the pair are choosing to steer clear of Italy.

But they will stop on the border so they will at least see Italy before driving to Geneva.

The Leader:

The send off at Maesgwyn Hall

Chris and John's Mini Cooper was joined by riders from Blood Bikes Wales as it left the car park of the Maesgwyn Hall on Mold Road.

The Leader:

Karen and Kate Price from Llangollen Eisteddfod

Karen and Kate Price, representing Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, were also there as the drivers will be raising awareness of the event as they pass through Europe.

John, of Bwlchgwyn, has already ridden to the Artic Circle and the Caspian Sea in aid of Blood Bikes Wales.

The Leader:

The bikes transport blood, breast milk, or anything that needs to be delivered urgently

John said: “Blood Bikes is an entire volunteer charity but in addition to the motorcyclists themselves we also have fundraisers and controllers without whom nothing would work.

“In addition to carrying bloods from hospital to hospital we also carry breast milk for premature babies and anything thing else which requires an urgent delivery, saving the NHS tens of thousands of pounds every year.”
